Although Cienfuegos is a historic town with a distinct French flavour, most visitors just pass through the city's airport on their way to the resorts on Playa Ancon. Less glitzy and developed than other Cuban destinations, Ancon is, nonetheless, just a very short drive away from Trinidad, one of the finest colonial towns anywhere.
Enjoy the uncrowded, unpretentious white sand beaches along the Ancon peninsula. Wander through the carefully restored Spanish colonial streets of Trinidad or the Gallic old town of Cienfuegos, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Head out to Cayo Blanco for some excellent snorkeling or scuba diving or take an old steam train ride through the sugar plantations.
Cienfuegos is an excellent value, particularly for families looking for something cheap and cheerful. The resorts in Ancon aren't flashy and therefore are almost always very economically priced, making them a perfect base for exploring Trinidad.
Even though resort packages use flights that arrive at Cienfuegos airport, transfers from and to the airport are included along with the flight, hotel, meals and drinks.
