Mazatlan is a relaxed alternative to the "go, see and do" of other sun destinations. Combine long, large beaches, laid-back attitude and luscious seafood with very affordable resorts and you have an ideal holiday getaway.
Start the day with some sport fishing then sample Mazatlan's famous lobster and shrimp over lunch. Explore the old town and climb up to El Faro, the lighthouse with stunning views in every direction. Cool off at the MazAgua water park or the excellent aquarium. Spend a day on the wide, uncrowded beaches lined with coconut groves at Isla de la Piedra.
Most visitors stay at hotels in the Zona Dorada, the main tourist area, or further out around the marina. Beaches are good in both areas, but the marina resorts are newer and tend to be in the 4- and 5-star range. Many hotels are available both on a "no-meals" and "all-inclusive" basis.
Mazatlan is one of the most affordable destinations in Mexico, so it's a option for those looking for a two-week deal.
