London takes back the crown as one of the world's great cities with ease, as host of its third Olympic games in July, 2012. Though it's seen its ups (a Royal Wedding; the Queen's Jubilee in 2012) and downs (that wee economic crisis) this multicultural metropolis maintains its status as the world's pre-eminent financial centre.
London is a melting pot with large pockets of cultures from India, Poland and beyond. Ironically, London feels typically British. British symbols are everywhere from the apple-red double decker buses to the guards at Buckingham Palace. Then you have the iconic symbols: Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge and of course, Big Ben.
Don't miss these essential sights of course, but equally ensure you partake in what really makes London great: a pint and a plate of fish n' chips by the river or at the pub, a day in the park (Hyde and St. James) or a night out in Soho or Shoreditch. London is calling and surely now is the time.
